"Don't Label Me" Cuff

As a society we are voracious consumers, often spending more than we actually have. Advertising agencies tap into our insecurities and sell us vacuous dreams. We are bombarded with banal, superficial images and we are somehow brainwashed into believing that our lives will be glorious if we buy into that designer brand.

"Don't Label Me" Cuff was created to address this nonsense.

Retro Country Road tie. Purchased for 50 cents at a thrift store.

Tie cut and hemming about to begin.

Retro labels retrieved from multiple ties. Carefully unpicked with a seam ripper.

Designer ribbon to provide a border for the cuff.

Trial and error will decide the best configuration.

Labels sewn with green thread in an ad hoc manner.

Which vintage/retro button should I choose?

Ahhh the shiny black multi faceted button will make this glam and edgy.

Ready to wear

  1. Wow, great statement and fab looking cuff.
I just threw out a label I forgot to sew back into a refashioned skirt. You bet I'm going to go get it right now!

  2. Thanks concretenprimroses. This is an easy refashion and the cuff looks amazing on. The black designer border gives it an evening wear finish. The ribbon was rescued from multiple packaging that housed one little bottle of perfume that was given to me as a gift.

  3. I like it. I really think men should do away with their ties, especially in hot climates where I come from. :-)

  4. I am amazed by the volume of ties that are sold in thrift stores. The Country Road tie would have retailed for the equivalent of $50-$60 new. I found an Anthony Squires tie at the thrift store in a very well to do suburb that I paid $1.00(have not managed to refashion it yet). When I Googled this brand I was dismayed to see that it retails for for $129.00.
